Deep Tissue Massage

Most people commonly confuse Deep Tissue massage with a deep pressure massage. A Deep Tissue massage manipulates muscle and connective tissue (fascia) beneath the superficial muscles and is a focused massage (meaning not a full body massage).   Deep Tissue massages deal with a specific pain that the client encounters chronically or acutely. They are not relaxing massages and it is common to be sore for a day or so after a deep tissue session.  Some examples of issues that would benefit from a deep tissue massage are limited mobility, recovery from injury, muscle tension and spasms, or postural issues.  A deep tissue massage works by breaking up adhesions within tense muscles.  By using a specific, deep, cross fiber stroke, the therapist breaks up adhesions allowing blood to return to the tissue.
